Kensington Never Stops Reading Summer Program

This year the tally sheet has been made easier. All you have to do is color in the sun if you read at least 20 minutes each day. You can use sticker, crayons, or anything else to mark off your reading times.
There is a new Bingo Reading Card this year that is recommended for students in the third through sixth grades. The card highlights the growing equity and diversity in children’s literature.

The program starts on the week of June 6th and ends on August 14th.
❑ The 20 minutes count if parents read to their younger children. Or you can alternate back and forth between pages (a good way to check fluency). Read to a brother or a sister or a pet-it all counts!
Very important – hang on to the calendar tally sheet (or whatever you use to record the reading times) so that the sheet can be brought to school in the fall.
❑ The goal is for each child to read 24 hours – that’s only 20 minutes every day! Cross off or color in a sun for each 20 minutes and at the end of the summer have your child bring his or her tally sheet to school to be recognized. If everyone participates this could add up to 180 days or one school year of reading for the entire school!
