It may be almost two months away, but I hope you will put January 9 on your calendar for our annual Parent Education Night. This year our PTA and School Site Council will partner with the PTAs at Madera, Harding, Mira Vista, and Korematsu to sponsor an evening with Jo Boaler. Professor Boaler is a professor of mathematics education at the Stanford Graduate School of Education. She is involved in studying how to teach mathematics for a “growth mindset” and how equity is promoted in mathematics classrooms. She studies why women and girls often choose out of science and mathematics, and how we can best support equitable and effective learning environments. This exciting evening will take place at the Harding School Auditorium. Stay tuned for more information!
We currently have barrels in our front hallway where we are collecting food for the Contra Costa Food Bank. The Food Bank requests canned meat, fish, soups; iron-rich cereals; peanut butter; dried beans; rice or pasta, etc. All donations should be in non-breakable containers. This year as always, the need is great; please be as generous as you can.
We also have barrels available to accept donations of new and gently used toys and books. We will once again be partnering with Coronado School in Richmond to distribute toys donated by Kensington School families to students who may not otherwise have gifts for the holiday season. Please be sure the toys are in good condition with no missing pieces. Do not wrap your donations, as we want parents and guardians to be able to choose gifts appropriate for their children.
Next week your child will bring home his/her first report card. If you have questions about your child’s academic or social success, please be sure to direct those concerns first to your child’s teacher. He or she knows your child, and is in the best position to make recommendations or suggestions.
