Principal’s Message Dec. 6, 2018

The benefits of recess are myriad, whether simply an active break from structured academic focus or an opportunity for children to practice problem-solving and cooperative negotiation in an unstructured setting.  At many schools across the country, Playworks is helping to create recess spaces that are inclusive and engaging for all students.  At Kensington, as at many WCCUSD schools, we have support from a Playworks coach who is on our site approximately one day each week.  She is providing professional development for our teachers and support staff, as well as junior coaching opportunities for our upper-grade students. The Playworks model ensures that all students have a safe place on our  playgrounds.  Students are taught how to resolve conflicts independently (ask your kids about Ro-Sham-Bo), practice positive language (“Good job, nice try”), and learn new games that are inclusive and safe.

Kindergarten registration for the 2019-20 school year begins on January 14.  This year much of the paperwork can be completed online, saving parents and our office staff valuable time.  If you have an incoming kindergartner, and if you live in the Kensington attendance area, you can fill out the registration forms using the link on our school website (, print them out, and bring them to school along with your proof of residence (utility bill, bank statement, etc.), and a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunization records in order to complete the registration process. The office will open at 9:00 for registration, and spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  If you have any questions, you may call the school office at 231-1415 and speak to Pam or Barbara.
